Klaus Boldt Commentaries

IT'S A MIRACLE:
I just love the lyrics. I think they really hit the point. The song is so calm and yet really intense and ironic. I especially love the part:
They had sex in Pennsylvania
A Brazilian grew a tree
And a doctor in manhattan
Saved a dying man for free
 "
and of course the bit about Andrew Lloyd Webber.

PERFECT SENSE I/II:
I guess I love "  2001: A Space Odyssey " ( my favourite film together with "  The Wall " ), so I can't help listing this one as well. I like the integration of HAL in the beginning, the reference to The Dawn Of Man and the football commentary of a war. It's very cynic and bitter.

WISH YOU WERE HERE and SHINE ON YOU CRAZY DIAMOND:
These words are again pure beauty. I think the Shine On lyrics about Syd are so plain and true and depressing that you can feel Roger's pain. It says everything about Syd's life for which a biography needed one hundred pages at least.
WISH YOU WERE HERE "
is a bit more cryptic to understand, but it doesn't need much commentary if you know what's behind the album.
So, so you think you can tell
Heaven from hell
blue skies from pain
Can you tell a green field
From a cold steel rail
A smile for a veil
Do you think you can tell?
 "
It says it all. Someone who isn't there, mentally. Somebody who is too ignorant to the world that he can't tell the difference between good and evil.

TIME:
I think in Time the Floyd combined music and words perfectly, perhaps they've never done better. You can really feel the time ticking away, and I love the end:
The time is gone
the song is over
thought I'd something more to say...
 "

IF
I won't write too much, because the mail gets too long, but I didn't want to miss If. It is a really soft song, and pretty unusual for Roger that time. Ouff, that were a lot of words....I could have written a lot more, for example about
The Tide is Turning " "
but I guess I like the music more than the words.
